Striving for his third successive 500cc/MotoGP World Championship, V. Rossi rode the powerful RC211V to perfection in 2003, gaining a podium finish in every race of the season, including nine sensational victories. With Rossi taking out the Riders' Championship, brilliant performances by young rider N. Hayden in his debut year, including two third place finishes, ensured the Repsol Honda team the Team Championship. The 990cc 4-stroke Repsol Honda RC211V, which totally dominated the MotoGP in 2002, featured some minor adjustments in 2003, including improvements to the revolutionary pro-link suspension system and engine, and redesigned cowling for improved aerodynamic performance and optimum cooling.
