That's
right open wheel fans, Tamiya is bringing back the legendry F103. The
lightweight, simple chassis which produced great racing and equalized speeds
has returned! The new version includes parts which previously were only available as
hop-ups! Lightweight Diff Joint Set, Height Adjustable Gear Case, and Rear
Suspension Ball Mount Set are all in the box! No 4wd or heavy high tech
nonsense! F103 was one of the original four race classes in the TCS and one
of the biggest in the first season in Canada (1998). This class grew over
the next 2 years because of it's low cost, strong chassis and set-up ease -
resulting in the closest wheel to wheel action ever! Not to mention the
realism this class provides for racers and spectators alike. 2000 was the
last year for the F103's and F1 racing in the TCS - due to licensing issues,
Tamiya cancelled production of the chassis which disappointed many TCS
racers. In 2002 Tamiya introduced an all new F1 Chassis, the F201. Which featured 4WD, inboard suspension and a host of other high tech bits.
However the F201 never really caught on and was a little too pricy for some.
The
2008 Canadian TCS Nationals marked the return of Formula One racing in the
Tamiya Championship Series, with a F103RM class. 30 Drivers entered the
event and showed what open wheel racing is all about!
After 15 years the F103 chassis is once again gaining popularity and looks
to be one of the biggest shifts in on-road racing. The 2009 Tamiya
Championship Series marks the series return and with many tracks
and clubs taking the TCS rules and running weekly races, demand and
interests continues the grow. Just in time for the 2008 Holiday Season
Tamiya will be releasing a very special 15th Anniversary Chassis Kit! A
fitting tribute to a brilliant chassis.
